Prospective
Students May Want To Know:
1.
WHAT TYPE OF TUTORING DO YOU PROVIDE?
We provide one-on-one tutoring using the Orton-Gillingham method teaching reading, writing and spelling. Orton-Gillingham is a multi-sensory approach to language instruction.
2.
HOW MUCH DOES IT COST?
Our services are free of charge provided you meet our
income guidelines.
3.
HOW CAN I GET MY CHILD OR MYSELF SCREENED?
The first step is to make a telephone call to our office.
Our Education Coordinator will ask for some background
information about the student, including questions about
skills in reading, writing, spelling, and speech. You
will also be asked about the student's medical history
and educational setting. Our senior psychologist will
review the student's file to determine whether he or
she should come to our office for more formal screening.
We conduct a partial screening, NOT a full battery of
testing; therefore, we cannot give a formal diagnosis
of dyslexia. We can, however, determine if the student
shows a dyslexic style of learning.
4.
WHAT KIND OF PAPERWORK DO YOU NEED FROM ME?
We will need financial documentation that you meet our
income guidelines. This is best represented by a 1040
tax form or government assistance grant letter. We will
also need copies of any academic and psychological testing
that the student has already completed, either through
school, a hospital, or a private clinician.
5.
DO I HAVE ACCESS TO THE TEST SCORES?
You may have a copy of the academic test scores. If
you request these scores, we will ask you to sign a
release form first.
6.
DO YOU WORK WITH ADULTS?
Yes, we do. We have students from the age of seven to senior citizens!
7.
HOW LONG WILL WE HAVE TO WAIT TO GET A TUTOR?
Usually, it takes two to three months from the time
you make the initial telephone call. The faster you
provide us with the required paperwork, the faster we
can get you through the process of being screened and
matched with a tutor if accepted in our program.
8.
HOW LONG AM I ELIGIBLE TO RECEIVE TUTORING?
You will receive 60 hours of tutoring. After 60 hours
of tutoring, you will be re-screened to determine how
much progress you have made. Tutoring does continue after re-screening.
9.
WHERE DOES THE TUTORING TAKE PLACE?
Tutors and students can meet in a variety of places.
Most work in a school, library, hospital, or local community
center. Some people come to our office at The Rotunda
Shopping Center for tutoring. Any public, quiet place,
convenient to both student and tutor, is an appropriate
location for tutoring. Tutoring does NOT take place
in the home of the student or tutor.
10.
WHAT ARE THE SIGNS OF DYSLEXIA?

involve difficulties in acquiring and using language-

all cases. Other problems experienced by dyslexics include:
